[Super Sol Construction Case] A2 Case of Backfill Material for Retaining Walls on Soft Ground

This is a case of road repair work for the Heisei 21 fiscal year repair bond No. 6 in Hita City, Oita Prefecture.

We would like to introduce a construction case study of the artificial lightweight material "Super Sol," made from crushed and sintered waste glass, used as a fill material for raising kitchen floors. In a road widening project, lightweight fill materials are typically not used for the backfill of precast L-shaped retaining walls. However, due to occurrences of instability on soft ground, Super Sol lightweight fill material was adopted as a countermeasure. After construction, there were no further instances of instability or settlement. 【Construction Case Study】 - Project Details: FY 2009 Improvement, Single Bond No. 6 Road Repair Work - Usage Category: Civil Engineering / Backfill for Structures / Retaining Wall - Client: Oita Prefecture - Construction Location: Hita City, Oita Prefecture - Required Performance: Lightweight and Reduced Soil Pressure For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

[Super Soil Construction Case] A2 Tail Arm Soil Material Case [Tochigi]

This is a case of road construction for management purposes in the Hirasawa area of Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture.

We would like to introduce a construction case of the artificial lightweight material "Super Sol," which is made from crushed and sintered waste glass. It was adopted as backfill material for the tailing arm method in a dam management road construction project. Due to the presence of an existing retaining wall at the lower part of the construction site, Super Sol was used to reduce soil pressure. Additionally, because of the steep slope, a lightweight fill with good drainage properties was required. 【Construction Case】 - Construction Content: Hirazawa District Management Road Construction - Usage Classification: Civil Engineering / Lightweight Fill & Structural Backfill / Road Body & Reinforced Soil Wall - Client: Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Kanto Regional Development Bureau - Construction Location: Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture - Required Performance: Lightweight, Soil Pressure Reduction, Drainage ● For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

[Super Soil Construction Case] A2 Case of Road Widening Work on Steep Slopes - Tochigi

This is a case of the Inari River construction road widening project in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture.

We would like to introduce a construction case of the artificial lightweight material "Super Sol," which is made by crushing and sintering waste glass to create a foamed glass lightweight material, used as backfill for reinforced soil walls (geogrids). Super Sol was used as backfill material for reinforced soil walls (geogrids) in a road widening project on a steep slope. Due to insufficient bearing capacity of the ground in the widened section, lightweight Super Sol was adopted in areas where the fill thickness was substantial. 【Construction Case】 - Project Details: Inari River Road Widening Project - Usage Category: Civil Engineering / Structure Backfill / Reinforced Soil Wall - Client: Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Kanto Regional Development Bureau - Construction Location: Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture - Required Performance: Lightweight and reduced earth pressure For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

The Glass Foam Material Business Cooperative is an organization aimed at supporting the promotion activities of "Super Sol."

About the Glass Foam Material Business Cooperative From an era of mass production, mass consumption, and mass disposal to an era where waste is utilized as a valuable resource. To effectively use limited Earth resources, environmental technology has been developed to transform waste glass into an excellent material. This is the glass foam lightweight material "Super Sol." Currently, Super Sol is manufactured at 17 locations nationwide. While each Super Sol manufacturing plant supplies high-quality and safe products, we are also building a network between locations to spread the excellent characteristics of Super Sol and promote its expansion. Therefore, we established the Glass Foam Material Business Cooperative. What is Super Sol? A lightweight civil engineering material with excellent workability. Super Sol L2 is a lightweight embankment material made from 100% waste glass. With a specific gravity of 0.35 to 0.5, it is 1/5 to 1/7 the weight of ordinary soil, reducing soil pressure on structures and being widely utilized as embankment material on soft ground.

[Super Soil Construction Case] A2 Tail Arm Fill Material Case [Yamagata]

This is a case of road improvement work on National Route 13 in Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture.

We would like to introduce a case study of the construction of "Super Sol," an artificial lightweight material made from crushed and sintered waste glass, used as backfill for reinforced earth walls (Taille Armé method). This project involved the improvement of the Ononome intersection on National Route 13, which serves as a major artery in the inland areas of Yamagata Prefecture and Akita Prefecture. To alleviate traffic congestion, a raised structure was implemented using reinforced earth walls (Taille Armé), with Super Sol adopted as the backfill material. It was used extensively across three construction zones (Saoitome area, Nakakawahara area, and Hozumi area) for the roadbed and subgrade. 【Construction Case Study】 - Project Details: Improvement of National Route 13 - Usage Category: Civil Engineering / Backfill for Structures / Reinforced Earth Walls / Roadbed and Subgrade - Client: Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Tohoku Regional Development Bureau - Construction Location: Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture - Required Performance: Lightweight and reduced earth pressure For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

[Super Sol Construction Case] A2 Case of Tsunami Evacuation Road Widening Project

This is a case of road improvement work on Municipal Road No. 3225 in Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

We would like to introduce a case study of the construction using the artificial lightweight material "Super Sol," which is made by crushing and sintering waste glass to create a foamed glass product. In the disaster response project to widen a narrow coastal road for tsunami evacuation, it was adopted as backfill material for the retaining wall. The lightweight Super Sol is effective in reducing soil pressure, allowing for a thinner retaining wall. Due to the narrow and nearly vertical construction site, it was easy to lift and place the material in bulk bags, which was highly praised for its ease of construction. 【Construction Case Study】 - Project Details: Improvement work on City Road No. 3225 - Usage Classification: Civil Engineering / Backfill for Structures / Retaining Wall - Client: Hitachi City - Construction Location: Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture - Required Performance: Lightweight, soil pressure reduction, ease of construction For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

[Super Sol Construction Case] A2 Case of using L4 for the backfill material of the quay wall.

This is a case study of the Nago Fishing Port 4.5m wharf improvement project in Nago City, Okinawa Prefecture.

We would like to introduce a construction case study using the artificial lightweight material "Super Sol," made from crushed and sintered waste glass, as backfill for a seawall. In the coastal protection work, Super Sol L4, which has a specific gravity of 1.1 and is lighter than gravel or crushed stone but sinks in water, was adopted. Initially, other lightweight fill materials that sink in water were included in the design, but Super Sol was chosen due to its ease of compaction and resistance to material change, based on its slaking rate and crushing characteristics. 【Construction Case Study】 - Project Details: Nago Fishing Port - 4.5m Seawall Improvement Project - Usage Category: Civil Engineering / Structural Backfill / Seawall - Client: Okinawa Prefecture - Construction Location: Nago City, Okinawa Prefecture - Required Performance: Lightweight and reduced earth pressure For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.
